Most Indiana employers hire an outside company to manage their injured workers’ medical treatment and other injury-related benefits. Some of those outside companies use in-house teams of doctors to second guess the medical treatments ordered by the assigned treating physician. This practice is called “utilization review” and it is used by these outside claims management companies to minimize the employer’s medical treatment liability.
